At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Dan Loeb of Third Point and Paul Singer of Elliott Management were among the presenters and sponsors of a panel on the state of international gay, lesbian and transgender rights. The discussion included recognition of recent setbacks on the gay rights front, with the passage of antigay laws in Russia, Nigeria and Uganda. In his presentation, Dan Loeb spoke of using financial, legal and social pressure to advance the cause of gay rights. Attendees included Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group; William Browder, head of Hermitage Capital Management; and Brad Smith, top in-house lawyer at Microsoft.
